This year, Kuirau Park in Rotorua is set to transform into a stunning sea of golden blooms to celebrate Daffodil Day – a meaningful event honoring those who have fought or are still battling cancer. Let’s discover beautiful natural New Zealand below.

Memorial Daffodil Field at Kuirau Park Nearing Completion

Following the success of last year’s commemorations at two parks in Waikato, the Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty has partnered with Property Brokers Rotorua and the Rotorua Lakes Council to create a “Field of Memories” – a space to preserve cherished memories, spread hope, and pay tribute to the journeys of cancer patients and their families (whānau).

The Meaning Behind the Field of Memories

As shared by Walker, a participant in the project:

“I wanted to do something to always remember my partner and also support others who are fighting cancer. This will be a place to hold memories, share love, and honor lives.”

Beyond a single-day celebration, the Field of Memories aims to build a lasting journey of hope — a place for reflection, connection, and ongoing remembrance.

Throughout the winter months, thousands of daffodil bulbs will be densely planted across Kuirau Park.

They are expected to bloom spectacularly by late August, perfectly timed with Daffodil Day, creating a breathtaking golden landscape.

Visitors will not only marvel at the pure, radiant beauty of the daffodils but also be treated to their sweet fragrance – ranked among the world’s top 100 natural scents.
This experience will delight both the senses of sight and smell, offering a truly unforgettable encounter.

Community Planting Event

A community planting event will take place at Kuirau Park, Ranolf Street on May 17.
Locals are encouraged to participate by purchasing daffodil bulbs, with all proceeds going directly to the Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty to support cancer patients.

Property Brokers Rotorua, the main sponsor, has contributed significantly to this heartfelt initiative. Representative Lisa Crowe shared:

“We are proud to be part of a project that creates a living legacy for those in our community affected by cancer.”

The Field of Memories project is not only about creating a beautiful landscape, but also about symbolizing compassion, resilience, and the celebration of life.
Join us in planting seeds of hope and making a difference for the community!

Let’s count down to the golden bloom of daffodils in Rotorua!
