This milestone also celebrates 5 years of strategic partnership development, as the two nations officially upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vietnam is New Zealand’s 12th largest trading partner, while New Zealand is Vietnam’s 41st largest trading partner. Bilateral trade reached $1.3 billion USD in 2024.

Both sides have agreed on strategies to promote and deepen cooperation through a series of development agreements in politics, agriculture, education, technology, human resources, labor, tourism, and more. To achieve this, the first step is to facilitate the opening of direct flight routes between the two countries. Local governments are encouraged to actively cooperate and promote connections between universities.

The Ho Chi Minh City – Auckland route will help enhance cooperation in investment, tourism, cultural exchange, and education between the two nations and their peoples. This flight will connect New Zealand with Vietnam, further expanding Vietjet’s network across Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, India, Kazakhstan, and beyond.

The first flight is expected to launch in September 2025 by Vietjet Air, operating four flights per week initially. Vietjet Air, a low-cost carrier with 94 aircraft serving international destinations, is expanding rapidly with over 300 aircraft on order. The airline promises to operate with a modern fleet, promoting trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Passengers will continue to enjoy the full range of services offered by Vietjet Air, with various fare options including Business, SkyBoss, Deluxe, and Eco classes. Additionally, this flight is expected to fully tap into the economic potential and trade cooperation between the two countries and neighboring regions.

Now, passengers will be able to fly directly from Vietnam to New Zealand without any layovers, saving travel time compared to connecting flights. You’ll arrive quickly without waiting or changing flights, and there will be no worries about complex customs procedures.
