New Zealand, renowned for its high living costs comparable to Australia, once made the dream of homeownership seem distant for many. However, under the pressures of taxation and global economic uncertainties, house prices in New Zealand have significantly declined, opening up excellent opportunities for buyers.

Positive Signals in New Zealand’s Property Market

Along with falling prices, the number of unsold properties has increased.
By March, there were 12,029 property listings nationwide – a 5% rise compared to the same time last year.
Currently, it takes an average of 41 days to sell a property, three days longer than a year ago.
However, the market remains active, with growing attendance at open homes and auctions.
Rowan Dixon, Acting CEO of REINZ, commented:
“The property market remains vibrant. Even properties that don’t sell immediately at auction continue to attract strong post-auction interest, demonstrating resilient buyer demand.”
Meanwhile, Michael Gordon, Chief Economist at Westpac, noted that house prices are showing slight recovery thanks to lower interest rates, with the REINZ House Price Index recording a 0.2% increase in March, marking the fifth consecutive month of growth.
Expanding Your Homeownership Opportunities in New Zealand
With house prices dropping significantly, now is an ideal time for first-home buyers, investors, and migrants to step into New Zealand’s real estate market.
Particularly with high labor demand and immigration pathways such as the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), this is a golden opportunity to prepare for a long-term future in the Land of the Long White Cloud.
